OGFC’s senior squad kicked off its inaugural season (after the rescheduling of its original kick-off game in McMinnville) with a return match against FC 77 Newcastle, on a hot sunny Saturday at PCC Sylvania. Newcastle is a familiar foe, as the O50s team had had a preseason friendly match with them over Labor Day weekend, resulting in a 5-2 loss. The inaugural league match was a more lopsided affair. After holding their opponent to a stalemate for the initial 15 minutes of the match, OGFC yielded 3 quick goals in relatively rapid succession midway through the first half. After the scoring barrage, Newcastle was again held in check until the half. The second half began as did the first, with OGFC holding firm for a good 10-15 minutes, until yielding 2 quick goals. After medical issues required a goalkeeper change with about 15 minutes to play, the O50s squad again kept Newcastle in check, before yielding 2 more goals in the waning minutes.

During a post-game briefing session at the Bullseye Pub, the team felt that there was quite a bit of positive to come out of the game, and that once the team gets a better sense of playing with one another and some line-up and squad rotation details are ironed out, it should be able to achieve more positive results as the season progresses. Maintaining a firm defensive line, holding the opponent in the center of the field, and stringing passes together to advance the ball are the primary areas of needed improvement.

Next match is Saturday, September 26, 2015, noon, at Delta Park, Field 5. Opponent is Seven Bridges FC, currently bottom of the table at 0-2-0, 2 GF, 11 GA.
